Google opens development centre in Denmark

Internet giant Google has opened a development centre in IT City Katrinebjerg, located in Aarhus, Jutland, and is currently hiring software engineers to design and implement high performance virtual machines. Google's presence in the IT City is considered important to Katrinebjerg's concept of research, training and business being located next door to each other.

 

Google says it chose Aarhus because the city is a hotbed of talent in software development. The new centre will create programming tools to improve the use and speed of web applications. Lars Bak, who heads the development centre, says it is a field in which Aarhus-trained computer scientists have strong competences.

 

Peter Friis, director of Google Denmark comments: "Google goes to places which have the strongest talents. Choosing Aarhus should not be seen as opting out of other places, but because it has capable people. Traditionally, the thinking was to fly these talented people to the US, but now we are placing the centres in the environments where talent is born." The news was reported by national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten.
